Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
